When Jesus Returns

For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes. Matthew 24:27

If you were to live long enough to see Jesus return would you know what to look for? The sign will be very clear! Will you be ready?

When Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives his disciples asked, What will be the signal of your return and the end of the world? Jesus told them, "Don't let anyone mislead you for many will come in my name, claiming I am the Messiah. They will deceive many. If anyone tells you, 'Look,' here is the Messiah,' or 'There he is,' don't believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God's chosen ones.

The sun will be darkened, the moon will give no light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. And then at last, the sign that the Son of Man is coming will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and glory. And he will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world - from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven. He makes this sign so clear for all of us to see. We will hear the last trumpet being blown and all will see Him coming in on a cloud. The light of God's power and glory will shine so brightly from the east to the west everyone all over the world will see it.

However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. The Messiah is ready to return at any moment so, we as Christ followers must always be ready for His return. This is something to really think about. Are you ready? One will be taken and the other left means some will be gathered by the Messiah at His return and others will be left behind. This is why we should always be ready because no one want to be left behind.

Another example of why we should always be ready is found in the parable of the ten bridesmaids. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. The five who were foolish didn't take enough olive oil for their lamps, but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil. When the bridegroom was delayed they all fell asleep. At midnight they were roused by the shout,' Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and meet him!' They all got up to prepare their lamps. Then the foolish ones asked the others for some oil. The others replied, 'We don't have enough for all of us. Go to a shop and buy some for yourselves.' While they were gone those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast and the door was locked. Later the other bridesmaids returned, calling, 'Lord! Lord! Open the door for us!' He called back saying the words we never want to hear "I don't know you."

When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit upon his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered in his presence, and he will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep at his right hand and the goats at his left. The people at his right hand will go into eternal life, but those on the left will go away into eternal punishment.

I encourage you to read Matthew chapters 24-25. Ready yourselves at all times because when the time comes of our departure or when Jesus returns we will not get another chance. Don't wait until it is too late!
