Let's Get Salty

Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other. Mark 10:50

Salt is used to slow the process of meat turning bad, preserving it. Seasoning salt can be used to in food (among other types of salt) to enhance the taste. I recently learned that salt suppresses bitterness and enhances sweetness. By adding salt to water it is a healing agent for a sore throat. In ancient times sea salt was used for an antiseptic on wounds and skin irritations.

It has been a long process of God changing my character, behavior, and attitude. I guess you could say that I have been marinating in the love of God for years. He has preserved my life by keeping me alive and using me as I become better with age. I believe it is time to get salty. I don't want to just serve up something good. I want to be known as someone who is well-seasoned and serve up the best I have to offer.

"Have you ever found yourself talking to Christians who look like they have been baptized in lemon juice? You know what I mean - they are always walking around with a sour expression."- Dr. Robert Jeffress When I first read this quote I took a good hard look at myself. I have my bad days just like everyone else and go through hard trials of life like we all do. I have come to realize that no matter what is going on in my life I don't want to be a sour pus. In spite of what is happening around us we can still be salty.

God wants us to be the salt of the earth spreading the truth of the gospel. This is who God wants us to become. "Witnesses who give others a taste of who Jesus Christ is."- LHM Let's get salty and go out into the world with Christ-like character showing kindness, compassion, love, and speaking with grace. This is how we help God preserve the life of others. Let's try to save them from the destructive ways of the world and lead them to Jesus Christ who can save their life.

There are some bitter people in the world who never seem to get over the past. I know because I was once that person. Maybe this is why being salty is heavy on my heart. I want to be salty and help suppress the bitterness in others. When we are salty we have Jesus Christ working through us to help others taste and see that the Lord is good. I like to pray asking God to reveal Himself so they experience Him in a personal way. When this happens it changes everything. Remember salt enhances sweetness too. Eventually, the sweetness that has been salted results in transformation. I can testify to this!

We get salty by going out and participating in the healing of the world. We need to reach out to the broken-hearted and reassure them God will fill that void in their heart. We should help those who are addicted to drugs and alcohol telling them freedom can be found. We need to help those who are lost find their way to the Father Our Healer. People need to know God heals all wounds. "The recipe for life includes a pinch of salt." - God
