Vanity

For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do. 1 Timothy 2:10

I think there are so many women who worry about what they look like before going out. I am not saying this is necessarily a bad thing. If you are in the work force there are many places that expect you to look your best. After all they have a reputation to uphold. I get it. Even some of the churches will look down on you if you don't meet their standards. I don't approve of this but there are churches that will accept you as you are.

I think God for the way He made me! I have never been one to focus on my appearance because I am far from being a girly girl. Jeans, t-shirts, and the all natural look is so me. Guess what? I am quite comfortable this way. I even quit dying my hair a few years ago because honestly I think it is a waste of time and money.

Vanity is the excessive belief in one's own abilities or attractiveness to others; excessive pride in or admiration of one's own appearance or achievements. Remember the saying: Are you conceited or convinced? Everyone always replied, Convinced. Seems to be prideful doesn't it? Well at least in my opinion.

Vanity is all about self obsession. It is all about having way too much focus on one's self and appearance. I believe this starts in most of the younger generations because teenagers focus way too much on how they look especially if they are popular.

Vanity also stems from insecurities. There is a big difference between dressing up to build up our confidence and worried about what others think. Looking better makes us feel better and can become a confidence builder. It can also make us worry about what others think and we do all we can to meet the approval of others.

I am really not trying to step on anyone's toes today. I know people who dress up in nice clothing, make sure their makeup is on, and fix their hair in many fashionable ways. Yes they look beautiful but I want you to know true beauty comes from within! Again nothing wrong with looking beautiful on the outside. Be yourself and I will be myself.

Don't be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. 1 Peter 3:3-4

The unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit will be revealed and seen as attractive when we do our good works for the Lord. So, ladies let's do our best to show the true beauty from within which will be admired by all. In case you haven't heard it today "You are beautiful!"
