I have been studying about the small things and even the devotions I have read tell us to start out small. Just this morning I learned something else about this verse, Your Word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path (Psalm 119:105). I normally focus on the fact that the Word is our instruction and direction for the way we should go. I know God lights the way, but this is what I learned this morning. It is a light that shines just enough ahead of us that we can take that next step. In taking these small steps they will soon lead to strides ( decisive steps in a specified direction). Small steps will lead us to where we can make a huge impact!!!
Now I want to take a few moments to talk about the faith of a mustard seed. The apostles said to the Lord, "Show us how to increase our faith," The Lord answered, "If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you (Luke 17:5-6;ESV). When the disciples couldn't heal a demon possessed boy they asked Jesus privately, "Why couldn't we cast out that demon?" "You don't have enough faith." Jesus told them. "I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible (Matthew 17:19-20:NLT).
Do you notice how the Lord is teaching them how to increase their faith? He tells them if they had faith like a grain of mustard seed (now that is really small) you could say to this mulberry tree ,,, and it would obey you. Now in the book of Matthew He says if you had faith of a mustard seed (which is slightly bigger than the grain) You could say to this mountain (which is much bigger),,, Nothing would be impossible. God is telling us even with the smallest faith we are capable of accomplishing huge tasks.
Do not despise small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin (Zechariah 4:10). I am sitting here reaching out to only a few people at this time, but I know starting small will turn into something bigger when the time is right. Whatever you are doing take the small steps to get there.
I will leave you with these small things that we can do daily that will have a huge impact. Look up to God, pray, read the Word, sing praises to Him with hands lifted, and always say thank you. I would like to recommend a song for the day. Everything changes by Anthony Evans.
Something small that had a huge impact was Jesus and His disciples. They were a small group who went out and changed the world.
