Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life. (John 8:12)
First I want to take you back to the very beginning. The first words God spoke were "Let there be light." God is light!!! This is why I believe this light was the radiance of God illuminating the earth.
Next, we also know Jesus is the light. He is the light that God sent into the world to be the light for us that leads to life. Once we follow Christ we no longer walk in darkness. The fact is, we don't just follow the light - we become the light. In knowing this we should be making the world a little brighter. Together we become a city on a hill. A light that cannot be hidden.
Being the light of the world is our responsibility to invest in others and lead them to the light. Then it will be their turn to do the same for others. Even while writing about the light I could go in several different directions. I believe I will save that for my book. For now I want you to know that being the light is:
Showing love to others - especially the unlovable because they need it the most.
Choosing joy in the middle of sorrow or despair.
Remaining peaceful when chaos surrounds you.
Learning to be patient while waiting.
Showing kindness to a stranger.
Spreading goodness by doing good deeds.
Remaining faithful when tempted to do wrong.
Showing gentleness by giving someone a warm hug.
Applying self-control when we feel out of control.
This is so much easier said than done. I know! We learn to be the light by walking in the light. There us is so much to be said about the light of the world, following it, becoming it, and spreading it. For now I think this is a good place to begin as we sow the seeds of the fruits of the spirit and wait for the beautiful fulfilling harvest.
