The Heart of Worship

You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. Mark 12:30

Before I ever thought about a personal relationship with our Father I encountered Him in a way I had never experienced. I heard a song that touched my heart and I felt His love for me that was stronger than ever before. I was taught as a small child that God loved me, but to feel His love when I so desperately needed Him changed my life.

I started going to church at "God's Shining Light." I also went to an outreach called "Life In the Son." I didn't realize it at first, but I learned to worship the Lord through singing praises to Him. Since God reached me through a song I have always worshipped Him through singing praises wholeheartedly.

Little did I know there is more than one way to worship our Lord, God. I thought singing to the Lord was the only way of worshipping Him. God you have taught me so much since then. Thank you! The next thing I learned to do was pray. I say it this way because many of us have said, "I don't know how to pray." Praying to God is simply talking to Him.

Worship is more than singing songs and praying. The heart of worship includes the Bible. We must read the Word, study the Word, and apply all that we are learning. At first my heart wasn't in it and my mind couldn't comprehend it due to my lack of understanding. After praying for knowledge and understanding believe me it took some time, but I started to enjoy reading the Bible. Then I prayed for wisdom and began studying the Bible. Reading and studying the Bible is something I love to do now on a daily basis. I still fail in this area from time to time. I just keep doing my best. After reading through the Bible for several years now I get so excited when God reveals something new to me.

The more we learn about the way we should worship the Lord we realize it involves so much more. Our desire is to love God with an extravagant love. We adore, honor, and respect Him with an awe filled reverence. Therefore, we should be excellent in character. We have the same fruits of the Holy Spirit and we should display them to others. Most of all love. Just as Jesus is an example for us, we ought to be an example for others.

God made us for a purpose. Whatever you calling is it can be used to glorify the Lord and used as another way to worship Him. He designed us with these gifts to share with others. When we give of ourselves to be used by the Lord for His purpose it is another way to show God that we love Him. As we are His humble servants it is so important that we are obedient in what He instructs us to do.

The heart of worship is a whole-lifestyle of worship. The way we worship shows God how much we love Him from the deepest part of ourselves. The whole-hearted love He so much deserves in return. Thank God for all He has done for you. Love the Lord with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. God doesn't just want pieces of us. He wants all of us.
