Guard me as you would guard your own eyes. Hide me in the shadow of your wings. Psalm 17:8 (NLT)
The NKJV says: "Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings." The apple of His eye refers to the pupil, a delicate part of the eye that is essential for vision and therefore must be protected at all costs. We can find shelter in the shadow of Your wings which is our hiding place. Wings are a metaphor for the protective outreach of God's power. You protect us with divine watchfulness and defense.
He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. Psalm 91:4 (NKJV) God is faithful to protect us. He is our shelter/refuge and shields us. Under His wings is a place of safety. A buckler is a shield/defensive armor worn on the forearm. A shield behind a shield. Now if you notice there are many layers of protection in this verse alone. We are covered in layers of feathers, gently tucked under His wings, His truth the shield and buckler are two layers of our armor and protection. Those who seek God's protection will be shielded by His faithfulness. God is always faithful to keep His promises and He promises to protect us.
Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until danger passes by. Psalm 57:1(NLT) When we hide beneath the shadow of Your wings we can remain there for as long as we need to; until the danger, destruction, disaster, and calamities pass us by. This is a cry for God's merciful help. God is concerned for the victims of oppression; He hears and sustains them. Trusting in God; being confident - my soul takes refuge, finds shelter, and place my confidence in you.
Let me live forever in your sanctuary, safe beneath the shelter of your wings! Psalm 61:4
In your sanctuary we will live with God's eternal protection. When we long for the safety our place can be found under the wings of God and that is a place where we can find security that will last forever.
