Paul's Thanksgiving and Prayer

This letter written from Paul and Timothy was written and sent from a prison in Rome to the Colossians around AD 60 when Paul was in prison for the first time. Paul wrote this letter to point out the mistakes the Christians were making because some of them were combining their new faith with old beliefs in idols. Paul wrote to help the Colossians see the truth and reminded them that the Lord Jesus Christ was all they needed!

We always pray for you, and give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all of God's people, which come from your confident hope of what God has reserved for you in heaven. You have had this expectation ever since you first heard the truth of the Good News.

This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God's wonderful grace.

You learned about the Good News from Epaphras, our beloved co-worker. He is Christ's faithful servant, and he is helping us on your behalf. He has told us about the love for others that the Holy Spirit has given you. Colossians 1:3-8

Paul's prayer: So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow to know God better and better.

We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. Colossians 1:9-12

This thanksgiving and prayer were not only meant for the Colossians, but for us as well. While we are here on earth people want to change the world, but don't know how. As we bear good fruit lives will be changed and others will know we are Christians by our love. Sometimes we pick and choose who we want to love, but we are meant to show our love to all people. This is how we can do our part to change the world. This love to reach others comes from the Holy Spirit in us and through us.

Knowing that all we need is Jesus we have the opportunity to be saved by His amazing grace. We will receive our inheritance in heaven. God has already reserved a place for us and we will have eternal life in heaven.

Through saying this prayer we will receive His glorious power, develop endurance and patience, while being filled with joy which will prompt us to always be thankful for our Father in heaven.

I hope you are blessed by this today and always.
