So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90-12 (NKJV)
The psalmist asked the Lord to teach us to take advantage of our short lives on earth in order to nurture a heart directed by wisdom. (Holman NKJV Study Bible)
Today's Bible study: How we learn to number our days. The above verse says teach us and when using the cross reference it leads us directly to the answer. So now turn to Psalm 39:4 which states: Lord remind me how brief of my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered-how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand (handbreadth). My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath (vapor).
We all too often live like we have all the time in the world. We procrastinate thinking we will do it tomorrow. The fact is when we learn to number our days the lesson to be learned is that we need to see life as God sees it. We are here for a moment and since tomorrow isn't promised we could be gone the next.
What are you doing with your life? Are you going to be able to leave a mark making the world a better place? Believe me when I say I am preaching to the choir. I know I have so much to do and I don't want my time to run out having nothing to show for it; leaving nothing behind. Now for the answer to the second part of the above verse let's turn to 1 Kings 3:12 which states: I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have. Solomon asked for wisdom above all else. He received it abundantly and so much more. I was reminded to ask for wisdom today and I hope you ask for it as well.
I want to include one more verse which is Ecclesiastes 8:5 which states: those who are wise will find time and a way to do what is right. Gaining a heart of wisdom will aid us in making time to fulfill God's purpose in our lives. Live everyday like it is your last and you will be living life to the fullest of intentions and accomplishments.
