Jesus' Prayer

For full prayer ( see John chapter 17).

I'm not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. - John 17:15

We cannot live in seclusion hiding away from everything and everyone. We need to learn how to live in the world without being of the world. Jesus knew this and prayed for our protection from Satan. Knowing the devil roams around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

We see sin and hear about it everyday just by turning on the "devil vision" (tv. social media) or tuning into certain radio stations. When we are tempted to do something wrong we give in so quickly. Or is it just me? Before we realize it we are walking around living in the sinful nature according to our flesh.

Jesus knew we would be tempted and He knows what it is like. He was tempted in the wilderness, but He never gave in and fought back with the Word of God. We should do the same. Jesus not only prayed for us; He became a living sacrifice for us.

Once we belong to Christ we become a new person. The old life is gone and a new life begins (2 Corinthians 5:17). This new life is how we learn to live in the world, but no longer of it. Now we have the assurance that we will always be protected.
