For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10
A masterpiece is a work done with extraordinary skill. God who is skilled beyond comprehension created the heaven and earth and everything in it. In doing so, He created us to be His masterpiece.
When we look at ourselves we don't necessarily see a masterpiece, do we? This is because we are usually looking at the wrong things. We tend to look at all of our failures, flaws, and weaknesses. This leads us to feel like we are unworthy to be called a masterpiece. Maybe we have never really felt that special.
It is time to refocus when we feel like we aren't who God says we are. When God says we are His masterpiece we should believe it. Simply because God's word is always based on the truth. As I sit here I am thinking about how long it has taken me to believe this myself. The thing is when we have believed the lies we tell ourselves or were told by someone else it is hard to believe otherwise. I get it. I have been there. Gradually we will learn to refocus on God and believe the truth. What I want you to know is God's word isn't just for others. His word applies to you too! Yes, you the one reading this right now. You are a masterpiece!
When we are created anew in Christ we are no longer who we used to be, but become a new creation. The free gift of salvation is being redeemed from our sins and receiving eternal life. This is the greatest turning point in our life; and the best decision we could ever make. Take a moment to think about what you are doing with your life. Even if you have already received Christ and know you will spend eternity in heaven what will you do with the time in between?
I have listed a few synonyms for the word masterpiece. God sees us as a gem or a jewel, a showpiece, or treasure. God has also given each of us different skills, talents, and gifts to be used to glorify His name.
When we shine like a masterpiece and use our skills people will be drawn to us. Then we will know we are walking in the will of God. Once God has prepared us we need to become His hands and feet - doing the good work. God wants to use us to be the light in a very dark world.
