Gaining Wisdom

Come and listen to my counsel. I'll share my heart with you and make you wise. Proverbs 1:23

How often do we go to others to find counsel? When we do this we shouldn't just go to anyone. If we consult with another person it would be wise to make sure it is with someone who has a close relationship with God and is sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Otherwise we could easily be misled. This is why discernment (obtaining spiritual guidance) is so important.

In Scripture theology, wisdom is true religion (which includes as follows) godliness piety (our devotion to God), the knowledge and fear of God, and being sincere in obedience to His commands. This is wisdom from which is from above. (KJV Bible dictionary)

We gain wisdom by coming to God and listening to HIs counsel. He is our mighty Counselor! We gain wisdom when we listen to all of His instructions. You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny - Psalm 73:24. Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are my constant guide - Psalm 119:98. Enemies in this verse are those who are arrogant and place their confidence in worldly wisdom. The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul - Psalm 19:7.

It is good to know that God will share His heart with us. The commandments of the Lord bring joy to the heart and give insight for living - Psalm 19:9. Our Father always has our best interests at heart. Wisdom is like a fountain! The words are constantly flowing into our hearts refreshing and strengthening us. The instruction of the wise is like a life giving fountain. God's heart is flowing into our lives when we read the Bible.

My child listen to me and do as I say, and you will have a long, good life. I will teach you wisdom's ways and lead you in straight paths. Take hold of my instructions; don't let them go. Guard them for they are the key to life - Proverbs 4:10-11,13. My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don't lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. Guard you heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life - Proverbs 4:20-23.

Wisdom is also like a bubbling brook. Just as God has taught us to gain wisdom and we know it is like a bubbling brook we should pour this wisdom into others so it will continue to flow like a stream.
