Don't store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. Matthew 6:19-21
What kind of treasure are you storing up here on earth? When I look around all I really see is a lot of stuff. There are things we need in life and then there are the things we collect. I collect cd's, dvd's, and books. I complain I don't have anything to wear but I have a closet full of clothes and too many pairs of shoes. These are just a few items that need to be addressed. The list seems to be never ending, and do you know why? No matter how much I seem to accumulate I am always wanting more. Aren't we all like this never feeling like we have enough? Might want to rethink this? I know I did and will eliminating some things today. The Bible is full of scripture about the rewards we receive. We will receive rewards for being obedient, honoring parents, acts of kindness, faithfulness, self-denial, good works, confidence, prayer, ministry, persecution, and following Jesus. The Bible mentions the crowns we will receive which include: the crown of victory (1Corinthians 9:24-27), the crown of rejoicing (1 Thessalonians 19-20; Philippians 1:4), the crown of life (James 1:12; Revelation 2:10), the crown of righteousness 2 Timothy 4:8), and the crown of glory (1 Peter 5:1-4).
When thinking about the treasures I wonder if it will be the finest of clothing, the freshest food when we sit at the banquet table, or the many mansions that will sit on the most fertile land extending as far as we see. Not even close! I am sure we will receive far more than we could ever imagine.
Wherever your treasure is there you heart will be also. The desires of our heart will be behind a door specifically designed just for each individual. (This is what I saw in a dream for myself). I believe that when we open that door our greatest treasure awaits us. I know most of us want to be reunited with our loved ones and we will. We want to walk along the streets of gold that lie just past the pearly gates. There will no need to look for the sun because the Lord God will shine so brightly in all His glorious radiance. There will be so much to see. I would love to see my mom approaching me with open arms but there is something I wish to see even more. My desire is to see Jesus waiting for me and when we come face to face He says "Well Done" and takes me by the hand as we walk side by side on the most amazing heavenly tour. As I have learned to seek the Lord here on earth being with Him in heaven will be my greatest treasure.
