Fighting With the Word of God
"I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you." Psalm 119:11
For some reason I have been thinking about when I attended Sunday school lately. The lessons I was taught didn't mean much to me back then. This morning I was thinking about a Bible game we played. The Sunday school teacher would tell us to "pick up your sword" which is the Bible-the Word of God and hold it up. Then she would tell us to look up a Scripture. This was a challenge to see who could find the verse the quickest.
The question is how quick are we to pick up our sword to fight our spiritual battles? Many times I have allowed the devil to whisper lies into my ear and then start to believe him. We need to "cut him off" as soon as we realize this, because the sooner the better. We all face temptation and being tempted in not a sin. This is how we fight that temptation! We follow the example of Jesus when He was tempted. He fought back with the Word of God-Scripture.
Jesus was lead by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Jesus had fasted forty days and forty nights and was hungry when He was tempted by the devil. When the devil came to Him, he said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread." But He answered, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."
Then the devil took Him to the holy city, to the highest point of the Temple and said, "If you are the Son of God, Jump off!" For the Scriptures say, "He will order His angels to protect You. And they will hold you up with their hands so you won't even hurt your foot on a stone." Jesus responded, "The Scriptures also say, "You must not test the Lord your God."
Next the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory "I will give it all to You," he said. "if you will kneel down and worship me." "Get out of here Satan," Jesus told him. "For the Scriptures say. "You must worship the Lord your God and serve only Him." (Matthew 4:1-10)
When we read the Word and store it deep within our hearts this is how we fight our battles. Sometimes when we are praying and fighting for others these words will come flowing out by the Spirit who tells us what to say. When we find ourselves in a battle we can defend ourselves with the Word of God just like Jesus did. We also need to tell Satan to "Get out of here In Jesus' Name." And when we do this he has to flee!!!
This is how God prepares us for battle. We are warriors meant to be on the frontlines. It is time for us to be strong and courageous. Time to stand and fight.
